I think it should matter that Spock’s pon farr has cast an influential vote here.

  2. I know very little about Star Trek, but when i scrolled down and saw that second picture, i was scared into voting for Kristie Alley.

Seriously… that second lady is kinda scary.

Yeah, Chance, I am with you on Robin Curtis…she is a terrifying Vulcan, perhaps even scarier than Laurence Luckinbill.

Steve, are you serious? Did Spock hook up with Saavik someplace and I missed it? Are you sure you’re not thinking of the Kim Catrall “Vulcan” from Undiscovered Country?

I really don’t know what is more upsetting…that you don’t know the answer to this question, or that I do. Check out STIII, my young friend. A 17-ish Spock experiences pon farr on a quick road to manhood, and there is only one woman available on the whole Genesis planet. The cut away from Saavik as she gulps nervously leaves some to the imagination, but not much. Cast your own vote against Robin Curtis, but please remember that Spock (and, director Leonard Nimoy) has cast his.

Oh shit. I hereby turn in my nerd card. I suck.

As punishment, I should be forced to read fanfic recreations of the coitus.

  6. If it makes you feel better, Matt, when I first watched STIII (at a youngish age), I did not realize that THAT was how Saavik planned on “helping” Spock. The thought did not occur to my innocent little mind until much later. (I voted for Robin.)

Coitus??? You mean, the physical act of love???

It may comfort you that, as a Vulcan, Saavik would have engaged in the Genesis logjammin under some necessity–compulsively, and without joy. These unfortunate souls cannot love in the true sense of the word.

I should add that a Vulcan male experiences the pon farr every seven years, and Spock aged a lifetime overnight. If we figure him to have been about 50 at the time he left Genesis, that makes about five ‘pon farrs’ before Admiral Kirk had enough of Rev. Jim. Saavik must have been exhausted.

No wonder we scarce heard from her again.

She was just helping him conceive!
