I know, I know–Chris hates him.

Regardless, Cory Doctorow has exactly the right idea on digital comics.

Doctorow for Editor in Chief. Of EVERYTHING.

Hate is not the right word – he and I see eye-to-eye on a lot of things (for example, I’m intrigued by this latest idea of his).

But it’s when he gets to holier-than-thou that I start to twitch – his little backhanded comment about regular Wednesday comic buyers automatically flocking for “goo-gaws” is a complete punch in the nuts.

Fucker, my regular Wednesday buying helped float this medium through some fucked up economic and editorial periods – I won’t get pissed on by the guys who just discovered them. If he’s turning himself into a neo-comic guru, more power to him. He’s got the time, brain, and inclination. But I don’t have to march to his drum.

That said, again, he’s not wrong about the difference between the person looking for the physical experience and the person looking to just keep in the loop. Especially when after two months, if a title isn’t big enough to warrent reprinting, finding a physical copy of something you’ve only discovered becomes a little bit of chore – better money in rolling the dice on my reading the electronic versions, and liking it enough to buy the TPBs.

Oh, and publishers should stop with hardcover editions unless they’re super special. Bastards.
