Argh. Whedon off Wonder Woman

Argh. Whedon off Wonder Woman

Feb 02

For whatever reason, Warner Brothers has bought a World War 2 based Wonder Woman movie, scripted by a freshly minted background actor and a personal assistant on the set of Beerfest.

Whedon confirms he’s off the movie as writer/director. And yet again, we can blame Joel Silver (even if he isn’t planning to direct.)

DC should pull a Blue Beetle on that guy. Don’t worry, he won’t know what that means.

this never felt right to me. i had hope and belief that Joss could do SOMEthing with it, but it also smelled a little too much like a studio exec brain-dead idea of a “slam dunk”: “hey, who’s that guy who did the hot vampire chick thing? yeah, the one on TV. let’s have him do the hot superhero chick thing! RAD. now let’s do lines of coke until our noses bleed blue.”

plus, WW is one of those fun but formless characters in comic book land–it was a minefield just waiting to explode, in terms of reconciling everything to make some kind of sense without tossing the Wonder Tot with the bathwater.

    so, sigh, from me.

  2. From the one angle, yes, it seems like Hollywood math, but it was Hollywood math that at it’s root has a point – If you’re going to make a good WW movie, pick a guy that both knows the comic and has a track record for writing really good, strong women characters. These two new guys, we don’t know what they think a women superhero movie should be like. They could have liked Barb Wire for all we know.

And you’re a heretic – gimme your mailing address.

  3. Bruce

Is a Blue Beetle anything like a Dirty Sanchez?

  4. I NEED AN ADULT!

Mmmmm, it’s more like a Donkey Punch. Only meaner.
