The Bin – 1/8/10

We used to just like stuff every week. Now we throw that in a blender with links, videos, and random claptrap and we call it…THE BIN. It stinks like garbage but it doesn’t taste half bad.

Stuff We Like This Week

Matt: I have a new external hard drive, part Xmas present from family (a $50 Best Buy gift card) and part Xmas present to self (paying the rest of what the damn thing cost out of pocket). It is red and incredibly small, but gives me something like 100 GB to play with and expand my music collection. Meanwhile, I can eventually delete my music from my other non-portable external drive and gain another 150 GB or so to fill with various and sundry. This makes me inappropriately happy.

Sarah: Nothing filled me with more glee this week than Kalinara’s analysis of this beautiful panel from classic ’60s X-Men. We’ve all joked about Scott Summers’ awful taste in music, but this proves that his taste in the clothing he chooses to put on his body is infinitely worse. And Professor X’s creepiness is at an all-time high, which inspired me to scan this panel:

(From the delightful X-Men: First Class.)

So basically, here’s what’s going on: Prof X has distracted/lured Bobby away with a shiny thing, thereby ensuring that Scott and Jean are alone in a romantic setting. He then gives Cyke a telepathic wink, like, “Alright, Scotty, you’re all good for boning.”

And Scott doesn’t find this weird or anything. Probably because he’s too busy thinking about how he’s gonna stock up on awesome plaid suits the next time the X-Men go shopping at Chess King!

Link Stew

Ragnell ranted awesomely about the Wonder Woman/Star Sapphire thing.

So did Twyst.

Laura Hudson posted this excellent Girl Comics article, which also includes a beautiful cover image by Jill Thompson. (What does it say that a few of the ladies we’re most excited to see on this cover are currently MIA in the Marvel U? Well…that’s a discussion for another time.)

Kiala took down that “America’s Tweethearts” thing. And she did so gloriously.

The great Chris Sims celebrated his fifth blogiversary with his Thirty Second Recap contest. Awesome Crisis features a glimpse at Brucestone Waynerock, aka Batrock.

Jeff Lester has a terrific recap of the decade that was in comics.

David Uzumeri’s latest theory on Morrison’s Batman run is as exciting as his “Alfred is the Black Glove” theory, even if it ends up being as true. Which is to say, not true, but still damned entertaining.

Once we were young.

Etc.

Twitter often produces some of our favorite internet things. It was mostly responsible for the birth of Scott and Jean Day, after all. This week, Sarah and Friend of Alert Nerd Jill the Nerdy Bird had a bit o’ fun with a hashtag of their own making: #weirdandwrong. Some examples:

Nicholas Cage playing any superhero. Ever. #weirdandwrong

That’s a wrap! Why not cap off your week by watching all three parts of this Patton Oswalt interview whilst cursing Jay Leno’s name?
