Stuff We Like This Week: July 17 Edition

In an effort to combat our occasional…okay, okay, near-constant negativity, we give you a regular feature full of nothing but love — Stuff We Like This Week. Appearing every Friday, SWLTW will recap the things that have set our little nerdly hearts aflame within the past seven days.

Sarah: I will admit to occasionally falling into the Cranky Fan Pit, the one where I hate everything and people on the internet are making me mad and oh my God, I don’t care if your local comic shop was out of fucking Black Lantern rings! Figure out another fucking way to raise the dead, GOD. The relentless onslaught of SDCC news coming down the pike this week seems to be sending me further into the pit, mostly because my brain simply cannot handle one more speck of information.

Inevitably, the only thing that pulls me out of this state is a moment of pure, unabashed fan-ness. And this week, that moment was me watching the last Doctor Who special and suddenly thinking, “I like when David Tennant wears glasses.” The more I watched, the more I liked. Doesn’t he look nice?

In fact, I am now mistrustful of the David Tennant who doesn’t wear glasses. I don’t think it’s really him.

The best thing about this is that all you have to do is Google “David Tennant wearing glasses” to discover that A LOT of people like this. That, in fact, there is a whole fan group dedicated to David Tennant wearing glasses. I should possibly disturbed by this. Instead, I’m charmed. Fandom irritates me to the breaking point, then pulls me back in, just like that. (And in case there’s any confusion, the thing I Like This Week is David Tennant wearing glasses. Duh.)

Jeff: Sarah, we all wear glasses. Where are our fans?

Now I’m tempted to start a Facebook group for people who like Jeff Stolarcyk wearing glasses.

I liked a lot of things this week, but the two things that really gave me joy were Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers, which I read the first 3 issues of in one sitting and can’t recommend enough to people that want fun, funny comics. The other thing I liked is Let’s Be Friends Again, Curt Franklin and Chris Haley’s slice of life/comics commentary webcomic that is never not absolutely hilarious. It reminds me of the middle years of Penny Arcade, where every strip they did just knocked it out of the park three times a week. That’s what Curt and Chris are doing right now.

Oh, and on behalf of Matt, I’m going to declare the thing he likes this week his birthday. Wish him a happy one in the comments, if you don’t mind.

That’s what we liked this week, Internet. How about you?

He looks amazing with the specs, so nerdy and cute. There’s a group for everything nowadays, there’s even a “The Let’s Clone David Tennant Appreciation Society”. Internet, I love you.

  2. David Tennant with glasses! Pet Avengers! — where was the hype for THAT Obama cameo, I ask you. (Ok, it was Bo, not Barack, but still).

  3. Yay David Tennant w/glasses! 🙂 Love, love, love!

PS – I love this blog! How would I go about emailing you w/a tip regarding an upcoming new web series I think you’ll love? Feel free to email me at my full name (all one word) at gmail. 🙂
