Stuff We Like This Week: May 29 Edition

In an effort to combat our occasional…okay, okay, near-constant negativity, we give you a regular feature full of nothing but love — Stuff We Like This Week. Appearing every Friday, SWLTW will recap the things that have set our little nerdly hearts aflame within the past seven days.

Sarah: This week, my brain cannot seem to handle writing more than one sentence about the various Stuff(s) I Like. But I like a surprising amount of Stuff(s)! Including, but not limited to: Charles de Lint’s new book, the fact that there is an accompanying t-shirt for Charles de Lint’s new book, the noise that emanates from my Burger King Enterprise toy, falling asleep during loud, boring movies (shut up, Terminator), Tom Lenk’s Twitter feed, all the What Are You Waiting For? posts on Fantastic Fangirls, and tacos. I always like tacos, but I especially like them this week.

Matt: I’m sorta with Sarah; I think it is hard to like things every week. Especially since my most geeky activity every week tends to be just laying around reading comic books, so saying every week that I like a different comic makes me seem like a creepy antisocial hermit, when in reality I’m…oh, I’m a creepy antisocial hermit. SHIT.

I did finish the fourth volume of Jack Of Fables this week, Americana, and I thought it was a damn hoot. I fell into Fables a few months ago, gobbled up all the trades, loved it to little tiny pieces, etc etc etc. And I’ve enjoyed Jack of Fables too as I catch up with that too. But this was the first arc where I felt like the cast and the creative team were firing on all cylinders and the book really came into its own as a unique title, woven into the fabric of the Fablesverse but with its own distinct tone. I just keep thinking back to Humpty Dumpty (“I don’t have a penis.”) and Babe the Blue Ox’s mental stories and chuckling to myself. I’m already excited for volume 5, which I believe hits stores in a few weeks.

Jeff: This has been a week of me discovering new movie likes/loves: I caught a screening of Drag Me To Hell on Tuesday and I thought it was rad.  Lots of old-school Sam Raimi in it.  I also sat down and watched Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist for the first time, and I heart that movie so much, guys.

That said, the thing I like the most this week is Don’t Stop Believin‘.  Even more than when I mentioned it last week.  I put a playlist of seven covers of the Journey classic up on my personal blog, so go download them and enjoy!

Oh, and I bought a second-hand Dreamcast with a bunch of games (but not Zombie Revenge, my favorite).  So that’s good, too.
