Fanboys Mess…

still going on. In the meantime, I plan to boycott Superhero Movie not just because of this, but because it looks fucking stupid.

Also in the meantime, why not go visit Fanboys writer and Alert Nerd fave Ernie Cline? He’s the reason we were excited for this movie in the first place.

Dollhouse: Helo and That Guy From The TV Set

Here’s our first shred of Dollhouse casting news. Scooping up Helo and his strangely hypnotic muscles was a fine move indeed, but I am almost equally excited about the casting of Fran Kranz as the show’s resident nerd. He was most recently on Welcome to the Captain, a sitcom that looked kind of like a parody of an actual sitcom, but you should all check him out in the 2006 flick The TV Set. If you love TV and know anything at all about how it’s made (or are curious to find out), you must watch this movie. It’s hilarious and insightful and Fran kills as a young actor who gets cast in a comedy pilot thanks to his hammy tendency to turn any line of dialogue into a potential catchphrase and the fact that one of the network execs is sure her daughter will love him. And the cast is stuffed with genre faces: Mulder, Ripley, Reed Richards, Deadly Girl. So go watch it and get a jump on a new potential Whedon fave.

Secret Invasion! Previews! Looks kinda…um…good?!

Secret Invasion! Previews! Looks kinda…um…good?!

All this chatter about Marvel_B0y and viral marketing, and it’s easy to forget that the actual Marvel summer event this buzz is promoting, Secret Invasion, starts next week.

There’s practically a whole issue’s worth of legitimate preview material out there already, which surprised me and pleased me. I like Bendis; I like his take on the Marvel Universe. I love this idea, and from what I’ve read so far, it looks really freaking good. I’m a sucker for a good event comic and this one smells like a winner.

But don’t take MY word for it–read it for yourself:

That whole Fanboys mess is still going on. Probably the biggest news to me in all of this is that the film apparently doesn’t have a theatrical release date anymore. It kind of sounds like it might go straight to DVD, no? Really frakkin’ disappointing.

What happened here, anyway? And can we really say that geeks rule Hollywood if a movie about geeks can’t get a release date? And aren’t there enough people out there who would spend the ticket money just to see Kristen Bell in the Princess Leia outfit? I’m just saying. Darth Weinstein, take note.
