How Fuzztive!

How Fuzztive!

So cool: Wright, Pegg and Frost are doing these advance screenings and Q&As for Hot Fuzz. Even cooler: they’re also bringing classic action movies — many of which are referenced in HF — with them, making for a full-on Fuzztival. My ever-astute friend Katherine heard about this and snapped up tickets for the Santa Monica showing, which is in the beautiful, historic Aero Theatre. It’s only $10, people! I’ve seen the flick and it’s one of the funniest, awesomest things you will witness this year. So if one of these Fuzztivals is making its way to a city near you…you know what to do.

There’s a new magazine popping up in the UK called Cereal:Geek (not to be confused with plain old Geek magazine, which is also worth noting) that will come out quarterly – 100 pages, no ads – and focus on those wonderful, wasted Saturday mornings of youth. Specifically the 80s. Boomers and Gen-Y need not apply.

Dubious at first, I’ve now shelled out for the first issue – the sample pages I’ve seen feature brilliant articles and features, such as tearing apart a single episode of The Real Ghostbusters, scene by scene, because it was made using many different overseas animation studios. Or taking a cartoon episode and coming up with a cover for it, if it were a comic. Not to mention a lot of fantastic art – I mean really, what are the chances we’re going to see new M.A.S.K. art anywhere else?

And then there’s the attention-grabbing cover, featuring a post-duke-it-out She-Ra, putting the “pow!” back in Princess of Power. Maybe they couldn’t show us blood and bruises on Saturday morning, but it was always there.

All right, so hopefully Emma Watson is coming back for the last two Harry Potter films. Re-casting her this late in the game would be jarring and weird, for sure. What I find most sad about the tabloid-y newsbit (referenced here) that started the whole ruckus, however, is that little Rupert Grint says he and Danny R. are currently “distant” from Emma and that they “don’t text or talk to her” when they’re not filming. Awww! In the language of Kids Today, isn’t not texting the equivalent of declaring someone dead to you? So sad!

Also, the TV Guide bit contains a reference to getting “a Gyllenhaal,” which I guess is now code for re-casting. By the way, I’m thrilled at the idea of Maggie playing opposite Christian Bale, but it’s kind of weird that she’s reportedly the same character as Kate Cruise. I always assumed they’d just make that a different character.

This two-sentence review of Battlestar Galactica’s latest episodes from Warren Ellis must be shared. I doubt I’ll agree with it, but it’s too good to pass up.

Warning: Spoilers and graphic bestiality after the jump.
