Shat on 'Balls

For those, like me, who have been dying to know what Bill Shatner thinks of the Mel Broooks opus Spaceballs, here’s the Shat’s review.

Fear The Almighty Juice!

Fear The Almighty Juice!

Just got caught up on my BSG webisodes. What the hell with that overly conspicious bottle of HOT PINK JUICE in the Jammer interrogation sequence? The director fucking LOVES that bottle of juice. We can’t help but wonder…what is the juice thinking? What is the juice feeling? When will the juice’s magical qualities be revealed? Will the webisodes now follow the juice and only the juice?

Apparently not, since the next installment is just Duck crying over his wife.

Oh, well. Three more days!

Speaking of BSG, I will be reviewing the episodes for iPodObserver this season! Check that out every Monday. To get the ball rolling, I quickly highlighted a few key plot points from seasons past…well, I tried to do that, anyway, but it basically turned into a bunch of Roslin gushing. Anyway. My friend Carly is reviewing Degrassi for the site, which is also awesome.

And while I’m sending you to various culty TV writings, I should also point y’all in the direction of my longtime pal and journalism mentor Susan Young, who has been blogging away about Lost (she is particularly intrigued by the LostWatchmen connection). And hey, Lost starts tomorrow! My brain is overloaded with TeeVee!!

New X-Men Blabbery

Tom Foss has an exceptional post up analyzing Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run, and how it fits into the larger picture of continuity and storytelling. Great stuff.

And I’m not even pissed that since I’m reading through the trades now, I had the run’s big Xorn twist spoiled for my sorry ass.

TV Season in Full Swing — Hurrah!

TV Season in Full Swing — Hurrah!

Did anyone else watch the first two episodes of Jericho? Jury’s still out, I think. It is spread with a thin layer of gooey cheese-like product that I am not necessarily opposed to but that I also wasn’t quite expecting. You know?

One thing that cracks me up completely is that they seem to have borrowed their “heightened danger” music from, I don’t know, Walker, Texas Ranger? Whenever The Skeet is in a particularly sticky situation, the guitars start screeching with wild, blow ’em up good-style abandon. It is awesome to behold. But also kind of distracting. You see how I’m conflicted?

For my money, though, I am going to give the Best Sci-Fi Twist on a New Show Award to Ugly Betty. The ending of the first episode revealed that the supposedly dead former editor of the series’ fictitious fashion rag is actually…being kept alive by Botoxy Vanessa Williams?! In some sort of…underground fortress?!? All swathed in bandages and such?! I don’t know. It was pretty much awesome and not expected and I loved it.
