True Geek Confessions: I Stole FREE Comics!

True Geek Confessions: I Stole FREE Comics!

May 04

Complaining about Free Comic Book Day seems like a true asshole move. After all, it is a day that has become a kind of Nerd Christmas, when the geek masses flood their local geek emporiums in order to receive FREE COMIC BOOKS. In a perfect world, they rub elbows with the great unwashed masses who don’t know from comics, yet also receive FREE COMIC BOOKS, and everyone celebrates the art form and hobby I love.

So first: Thanks to all the stores participating in Free Comic Book Day. You’re doing good work, and mostly, you’re doing it well.

Now let me bitch, like the whiny weasel bitch that I am.

If you haven’t seen Iron Man yet, do yourself a big favour – sit through the credits. Your thanks can be sent to me in the form of small cash remunerations via PayPal. If you have seen it and you didn’t sit through the credits (and if my showing was any indication, about 95% of you didn’t) I’m sorry. You missed out. You will, in time, through sheer internet osmosis, find out what you missed, and you will be sad. Very sad. You might want to check out YouTube, quick. It may help.

For those of you, my brothers and sisters, who stayed… HOW FRAKING AWESOME WAS THAT?

I will expound shortly – as this is the harbinger of some big things in comic movies – but for the moment, everyone should have a chance to go see the movie

Four-Color Critiques #2: Hot Girl-on-Girl Continuity

Four-Color Critiques #2: Hot Girl-on-Girl Continuity

If a great deal of the work being published by DC Comics today can be classified as “continuity porn,” then The Brave and the Bold: The Lords of Luck has to be the continuity equivalent of the hottest, raunchiest porn you’ve ever seen, starring every girl you’ve ever dated, engaged in scandalous acts with every actress and lingerie model you’ve ever fancied. Plus donkey dicks, if you’re into that sort of thing.

That said, it’s still pretty good.

Journeyman is really probably not coming back next year, which is lame cause it was a really good show. Yes, they kind of did that “Oh, here are some songs and hairstyles and key parties and bell bottoms to tell you what era we’re in now” thing, but the stories were solid, the mythology was interesting, and the lead performance from Kevin McKidd was really quite dreamy. Only I refuse to refer to him as “Kevin McKidd” or even his character name. He will always be simply “Journeyman” to me.

I’m going to a screening of Made of Honor tonight to get my Journeyman fix. I’ve been babbling all day about how “I prefer Journeyman to McDreamy” and “Journeyman’s hair doesn’t look so good in the trailer” and “Oh, look, Journeyman is apparently one of the only characters with a last name, probably to show that he’s Scottish.” Friend Jenelle is getting a real kick outta this, let me just tell ya.

Anyway, I’m a little worried about Journeyman, though, because I think he might get his heart broken. Maybe he can just zap over to another era and solve a mystery to soothe his soul.
