Disclaimer: the shows I’m going to mention in this post aren’t really genre, but the subject matter I’m discussing in reference to those shows is most definitely geeky. Also there are potential SPOILERS ahead, so read at your own risk.

I don’t give up on shows lightly. If I love a bit of TV, I will cling to it ferociously, occasionally going down with the sinking ship — hand over heart, eyes all misty, trying to remember what the hell I fell in love with in the first place. Even if I don’t like the direction a show is taking, it’s hard for me to just up and abandon the characters I’ve come to care for. I think the last time I did it was The O.C. — I adored that show’s first season and detested its second, and then it got stuck in an overcrowded time period and we can only TiVo two shows at once, so I jumped. I still feel a little bit bad. I bet my leaving is why little Seth Cohen started smoking pot and awesome, Berkeley-fied Sandy Cohen suddenly turned into The Man and also a giant douche (at least he seemed to be back to his old, lovable self in the season finale, which I did watch, mostly because it gloriously killed off one of the reasons I started hating the show in the first place, the sulky, irritating, badly acted Marissa Cooper).

Then go to this website and make a note of July 8th – also, try and find children to take with you.

I’ve seen the pilot episode of YoGabbaGabba (more on that later) – it’s awesome. And I’m thirty-something (fuck you, Timothy Busfield). I can only imagine that a little kid will go mental for it.

As the show is still being shopped around, it’s hard to say where and when most of the world will get to see it, but if you’re in LA, you’ve not only got a chance to see it, but there will be swag as well.

You lucky ducks.

I shamelessly confess an abiding affection for most MTV reality shows. Okay, maybe there’s a little shame. And maybe I find the single-camera Laguna Beach shows to be reprehensible and vomit-inducing.

But Real World/Road Rules Challenge? Making the Band 3? Made? Good stuff, Maynard.

I caught part of a recent episode of Pimp My Ride that should be of interest to us geek folk, as the pimpee in question is a bit of a hardcore nerd, and so the team went for a tricked-out UFO-inspired design, including crop circle seat covers and a laser-activated starter. They even threw in a robot. The pictures are pretty sweet.

Neato preview of Neil Gaiman and John Romita Jr.’s upcoming miniseries for Marvel, The Eternals. First issue hits this Wednesday.

Full disclosure: I haven’t read all of Sandman, or nearly enough Gaiman, really. But I did recently read his 1602 miniseries for Marvel, and loved it. There’s something really fun about a brilliant writer tossing off a clever, fun superhero story, with good turns of phrase and solid twists. I expect more of the same from Eternals.

And if I don’t get it, I’m gonna throw the BIGGEST tantrum, OHEMGEE!
