Film Flam (Matt's Insecure)

Am I excited for Snakes on a Plane? Sure. Do I find the hipster embracing of the film as a metaparody of Hollywood filmmaking and marketing to be fascinating? Absolutely. Does it still make me feel a little slimy to participate, like a late bandwagon jumper of the ugliest variety who needs to prove his ability to “get the joke” in order to validate his own nagging, endless sense of self-worthlessness?

OH yeah.

Anyway, this Snakes on a Plane theme song is about as good as it gets. Reminds one of the vintage Duran Duran tune for The Living Daylights.

There may be, allegedly, funky business in Spider-Man 3 regarding young Peter Parker’s origin tale. Potential SPOILERS at the link.

My reaction? Meh. Do you care what my reaction is? Meh. Is it yet more insecure posturing that inspires me to actually use the term “meh” in a blog post? Meh.

Pirates of the Carribean, the movies, have now changed Pirates of the Carribean, the ride.

Definitely not very “meh” about that shit. Cause if they’ve fucked up Pirates, I will never forgive them. My humble opinion is that the classic Disneyland Pirates is the greatest theme park entertainment experience ever devised, and one of the crowning achievements on Walt Disney’s career. (Unless my memory fails and he was actually dead when it was created, in which case, scratch that last part. Chalk it up to my self-hate.)

My favorite Superman Returns review so far (other than my own, of course; how’s THAT for insecurity?) has to be Peter David’s, which I think is positive, but is definitely nitpicky in a fun and righteous way. And of course, spoiler-loaded.

Here – just to show that I’m not grumpy at Cory for the sake of being grumpy at Cory, I offer this link. Cory is sometimes – I’d even go so far to say often – posting Things Of Interest To Me*.

You can have a sneak peek a the changes, which by all accounts seem AOK with Disneophytes (minus the nitpicky hardcores.)

*I’m just not willing to smile and nod at everything he says. Dude says he likes comic books, then he got himself an archnemesis with the whole Underwear Perverts thing. Just keep typing, Lex.

A couple friends tried it out the other day and gave it a fairly positive thumbs up. They dug the mistscreen effect thingy and said the Jack Sparrows weren’t too crazy-distracting (although one of them looks so realistic, they thought maybe Johnny Depp was making some extra cash by doing a little real-life cameo).
