Civil War Spoiler: DUH.

Civil War Spoiler: DUH.

Jun 13

Have you heard? There’s a shocker at the end of issue 2 of Marvel’s Civil War that will RHIP TEH INTRENET IYN HYALF!!! OHEMGEE!!!

Of course, if you read the last issue of Amazing Spider-Man, and/or last week’s debut of Civil War: Front Line, you would have to be BRAIN DEAD not to determine what this spoiler is.

(AVAST! SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU’RE STUPID!)

Here’s what the spoiler MUST be, or at least, I’d bet my left pinky toe on it: Spider-Man reveals his secret identity. Unless there’s been an elegant and brilliant misinformation campaign and there’s another, bigger, better spoiler that occurs, this would seem to be the spoiler in question.

The last issue of Amazing Spider-Man ends with Spidey standing at a news conference with Tony Stark, seemingly about to demask. And Civil War: Front Line #1 features a nice scene where Spidey discusses the implications of telling the world who he is.

So this is a spoiler coming down the pike like a Mac truck. You see it, you hear it, and it will hit you in the face. And yet, there still seems to be some half-hearted attempt to protect the info, even if it is bleeding obvious. Rich Johnston is reporting…

A number of websites have received what they describe as threatening messages from Marvel over the possibility they might reveal plot details from the issue of “Thunderbolts.” It apparently went out in last week’s First Peek pack, where retailers get an advance look at titles shipping the following week. And, as a background scene on the first page, gave away the major spoiler from the end of “Civil War” #2.

Mile High Comics ran a preview of the page in question. Now removed obviously.

Which makes me think two things.

1) The comics online press may very well be at the same proto-journalistic corporate shill stage that the video game press was at a decade ago.

2) Marvel could still learn a thing or two from DC about how to manage big reveals.

Or something. Shit, does this even make sense? I just changed a poopy diaper the color of Grey Poupon.

Yeah, that makes sense – not a lot of fibre in baby formula / mother’s milk. So, the results are… that.

Or did you mean, does the whole Civil War spoiler thing make sense? Then, no. Marvel rarely makes sense to me.
