Trek08: "Charlie X"
Jan 25“Charlie X” is an hour of Star Trek that is at turns disconcerting, self-indulgent, creepy, unsettling, uneven, and affecting.
And yet…SHATNER.

New Guardians of the Galaxy Series…but…but…
Jan 24Indulge me for a moment, if you will, as I engage in a brief bit of classic bitchy fanboy complaining.
Marvel has announced that one of the ongoing titles spinning off their latest Annihilation extravaganza will be a new Guardians of the Galaxy series.
That’s fine, I guess…but hey, what about the OLD Guardians of the Galaxy?

When We Was Fab
Jan 22I’ve recently initiated a project by which I start with “A†and move through my collection of miniseries and one-shots, reading all those I haven’t read in a while and evaluating whether or not I need to keep them or toss them in the eBay pile.
Last night I finished a four-issue prestige format miniseries from Marvel, The Adventures of Captain America, written by Fabian Nicieza and drawn (mostly) by Kevin Maguire. It came out in 1991, I believe to celebrate Cap’s 50th anniversary, and it retells Cap’s origin before spinning out into his first adventure.
First off, it’s a pretty kick-ass comic.
Second, it’s almost a perfect template for the ideal Captain America movie. It’s period, set in 1940-41, so it has an Indiana Jones kinda feel, and it’s got an epic scope built atop personal moments and character relationships.
Third, and finally, it has made me realize just how underrated Fabian Nicieza is as a writer.
Blah blah blah comics blah (1/21/08)
Jan 20An ungodly heaping mess of reviews, for titles and trades that aren’t even that new anymore, but whatever.
Inside: Brave and the Bold, Detective Comics, Punisher War Journal, Fantastic Four: Isla de la Muerte, Northlanders, Mighty Avengers, Teen Titans: The Lost Annual, and all the bitching and whining you’ve come to expect–nay, demand–from internet comics reviews.

Consider it experimenting with a Warren Ellis brainchild – or perhaps conducting a peer review of similar experiments by our favs at Ectoplasmosis. Regardless, our first foray into physical print, broadsiding in this case, is available for you to download and read. Further more, we encourage you to print a copy or two (or ten) out and share with the world. Leave them in the office lunch room or on a bus seat. It’s up to you!
We’ll be doing this, as the banner suggests, monthly, though the second hit will come slightly faster than normal, as we’ll be aiming for the first week in any given month rather than mid-month as with issue one.
Bathroom stalls. Library notice boards. Included in the envelope with your gas bill.
The plan will be to formally publish a year’s bushel of broadsides along with our upcoming Alert Nerd quarterly ‘zine – which is looking for clever people, it should be said.
Tucked underneath a windshield wiper. Left in the apartment lobby. Dropped off at the local BiMonSciFiCon.
