Pegg Watch 2006
May 08My friends J.C. and K asked me to please file an official report on the amount of Simon Pegg contained in Mission: Impossible III. “If the movie is at least 80 percent Pegg, we’ll go see it!” they said. Sadly, there are only two big Pegg scenes. He is funny and terrific in both of them, but still — it’s not quite the Peggariffic Extravaganza they may have been looking for. If you’re an Alias fan, Pegg basically plays a British version of Marshall — you half expect him to offer up a lipstick that’s really a camera, or maybe a pair of sunglasses that takes high-resolution x-rays.

Boobs, Boobs, Boobs
May 08A couple of comicsbloggers respond to to Erik Larsen’s column about the Phantom Lady’s huge knockers:
Ragnell’s Written World: A Short Note to a Stupid Columnist
Mountain of Judgment: One Fan’s Opinions Are Like…
(Links found via When Fangirls Attack!)
Ragnell/Written World also offers a truly excellent Phantom Lady Breastrospective. Larsen responds here.
I was trying to think of something clever and cutting to say about the original column, but all I can think of is this: “Gah!” Especially regarding this part:
The Phantom Lady’s only distinguishing characteristics are her ample cans. That’s pretty much all she has going for her. Ditto Power Girl. To tone them down is to strip them of their identities. And frankly, that’s what they’re supposed to look like! It’s not a situation where an artist took Catwoman and distorted her to fit his fetishes — these characters started out busty as all hell — drawing them that way is drawing them right.
Yes! Drawing them right! Thank GOD there are a few artists out there who SHALL NOT BE MOVED by the evil censors on the INTERNET! They will draw their MASSIVE TA-TAS, censors be damned! Also, way to boil those two characters down to nothing more than a pair of tits.
My Free Comic Book Day
May 07I decided to celebrate Free Comic Book Day by visiting a new store (well, new to me), Geoffrey’s Comics in Gardena, CA.
As I approached in my Saturn, I could already see a line extending out the door. Was there some sort of artist appearance? Nope. That was just the line to get in and enjoy comics. Sweet.
Speaking of Free Comic Book Day…
May 05I’ve got a new name to add to The List, right under Cory Doctorow;
Douglas Wolk.
Go have a look and tell me if it’s just me. Am I being over sensitive, or does the whole thing seems a little… I dunno… smarmy.
My mouth is full of bile, so if you’d like to read more of my thoughts, you should check out the first letter to the editor, at the end of the article. Yes, I gots teh firsts.
Get Your Comics!
May 05I’m pretty sure anyone reading this site already has this marked on their calendar, but don’t forget about Free Comic Book Day tomorrow!
