So, right. Transformers live action.

I have no personal great attachment to the Transformers, and you can willingly chalk me onto the list of those who just don’t “get” their attraction to their small but obsessive fan base. Not a judgement–I obsess over plenty that most don’t “get” so I understand how it goes–it’s just not my cuppa tea.

I do, however, have a slight attachment to Michael Bay, and so the prospect of him directing giant CG robots turning into trucks and airplanes when they aren’t beating the shit out of each other in downtown LA is downright…electrifying.

Transformers fans–whatever they call themselves–are probably pretty pissed that Michael Bay, of all people, is going to bring their geekgasm fantasies to live-action “life” on screen. If he were making, say, a Star Trek film with the original series cast, or the next Batman movie, I’d be pretty pissed too.

But I am ensconsed in the warm, inviting womb of disattachment, and so he can do whatever he wants. If things go boom and crash and there’s a bit of gratuitous nudity, I’m very much all over it.

The A.V. Club checks out Frank Miller’s cover for All-Star Batman and Robin #5, which features an extremely weird image Wonder Woman’s ass. Like, it’s just a picture of…an ass. In extreme close-up! Where are her arms? Is that a boob? Why is her ribcage all pointy?

This post also helpfully directs you to comics reader Karen, who gives us a few cover mock-ups focusing on male superhero, er, attributes in much the same way.

Have the Hasbro folks run out of background aliens already? Are they so desperate for new toys to sell to eager nerds that they’ll make an action figure of a glorified superfan? What’s next–Episode III Campout Nerd with Lucas Apologist Judo Action Chop?

Twomorrows publishes some neat comics periodicals and books. Their Free Comic Book Day offer is pretty sweet.

A fascinating column on DC’s dirty pool with retailers.
