{"id":981,"date":"2008-06-13T11:40:02","date_gmt":"2008-06-13T18:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alertnerd.com\/?p=981"},"modified":"2008-06-13T11:40:02","modified_gmt":"2008-06-13T18:40:02","slug":"links-to-the-past-star-tours-arcades-and-apocalipstix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.alertnerd.com\/?p=981","title":{"rendered":"Links to the Past: Star Tours, Arcades, and Apocalipstix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few relatively random links that have been gathering dust in my mailbox:<\/p>\n<p>* We may finally have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mouseextra.com\/2008\/05\/28\/1064\/\" target=\"_blank\">a new ride movie for Star Tours at Disneyland.<\/a> I hope it involves Lucas chasing $100 bills.<\/p>\n<p>* A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/features\/lifestyle\/explore\/chi-arcades-end-0605jun05,0,3830088.story\">great story<\/a> from the Chicago Tribune on the closing of one of the oldest arcades in the region. I don&#8217;t remember this one in particular, but I was an occasional visitor to Friar Tuck&#8217;s in Calumet City, and our local Showbiz Pizza was of course a frequent favorite spot, back in the day when pizza arcades had mostly video games, and not ride-on toys and plastic ball pits.<\/p>\n<p>There was also this fantastic arcade someplace in the northwestern suburbs where you could pay like $5 to get in, and play row after row of vintage arcade games for free. Maybe this is the arcade of which they write? Perhaps that place is long-since dead as well? I only made it up there a handful of times in college, but man, it was a trip.<\/p>\n<p>* Cameron Stewart&#8217;s new graphic novel from Oni, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.comicbookresources.com\/?page=article&#038;id=16776\" target=\"_blank\">The Apocalipstix<\/a> (with writer Ray Fawkes), looks right up my alley.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few relatively random links that have been gathering dust in my mailbox: * We may finally have a new ride movie for Star Tours at Disneyland.
