{"id":319,"date":"2006-10-06T14:16:58","date_gmt":"2006-10-06T21:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alertnerd.com\/blog\/2006\/10\/06\/the-winter-men-of-our-discontent\/"},"modified":"2006-10-06T14:16:58","modified_gmt":"2006-10-06T21:16:58","slug":"the-winter-men-of-our-discontent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.alertnerd.com\/?p=319","title":{"rendered":"The Winter (Men) Of Our Discontent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So apparently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dccomics.com\/comics\/?cm=4664\" target=\"_blank\">The Winter Men<\/a> has been shrunk from an eight-issue mini to a five-issue mini plus a to-be-released one-shot that odds are may not even ever see a damned release, thanks to a combination of the huge delays between issues of the regular series and the combined shrugs from both the comics marketplace and DC\/Wildstorm.<\/p>\n<p>Which all sucks. This be good comics&#8211;smart, funny, layered as all hell. Essentially, it was a story of the Russian mob and superheroes&#8230;I think. I can&#8217;t say I understood everything that was happening, becuase it was intricate stuff to my tiny brain, but I always enjoyed it. Crusty characters interacting in unexpected ways is always a good time. I looked forward to the day when all eight issues were in hand and I could spend a few hours reading the mini in one sitting, making the connections that are sometimes impossible in the one-a-month (or even worse, the one-every-several-months) world of floppies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/joglikescomics.blogspot.com\/2006\/10\/ill-fuck-your-family-my-family-is-well.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jog&#8217;s blog<\/a> has a nice write-up of the series and why it&#8217;s so darn cool. I tend to agree with him&#8211;this will become one of those cult classics constantly searched for in back-issue bins for a quarter.
