Or do I post a photo of William Shatner? Truly, it is akin to how Christ must have felt as he wept blood at Gethsemane.<\/p>\n<p>Click to learn which side of my brain wore out&#8211;the tiny, writerly side or the gigantic lazy side&#8211;this week.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The tiny, writerly side.<\/p>\n<p>I really enjoyed this week&#8217;s issue, even if most of it is a fight scene between John Irons and his niece Natasha. I think the length of the scene was necessary&#8211;it had a genuine emotional payoff to this particular portion of this particular storyline. Giving it that  much space and even indulging in a partial splash page offered heft to the fractures in their relationship.<\/p>\n<p>And I think ultimately, history will record the &#8220;History of the DCU&#8221; backup as one big fat boring wasted opportunity. It&#8217;s easy to understand only as a weekly devourer of pages; otherwise, it&#8217;s hard to see the point in an abbreviated review of the DCU&#8217;s history that has virtually no surprising changes, unless you bother to glare through your boredom and try to figure out the miniscule omissions that must count to somebody as &#8220;earth-shattering.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every week, I face a lonely, difficult decision: Do I write about the latest issue of 52?
